A Republican-backed package of bills that would maintain the tipped wage system in Michigan has passed the state House of Representatives.

The bill affecting restaurant servers and others who receive tips now heads to the Michigan Senate for consideration.

The Michigan House OK'd bills retaining the tipped wage for restaurant workers and limiting the reach of paid sick leave laws taking effect Feb. 21.

With less than a month remaining until new minimum wage and paid sick leave laws are set to take effect, the GOP-led Michigan House continued to fast track two bills that would roll back some of the changes.

LANSING, Mich. (WLUC) - With 63 to 41 votes, the Michigan House passed two bills to keep tipped workers' wages as is. In February, the base pay for tipped workers will increase to nearly $6 an hour.
