The chair of the Maine Democratic Party announced Thursday she won’t seek re-election when members select leaders later this month. Bev Uhlenhake, a former city councilor and mayor in Brewer and former chair of the Penobscot County Democrats, has served as chair of the state party since January 2023. She is also a previous vice chair of the party.

Bobby Hite, Suzanne Sayer and Chelsea Suvlu will be on the March 11 special election ballot to replace ex-School Committee member Benjamin Briggs, according to Town Clerk Jillian Richards. The filing period ended Friday, Jan. 10. Briggs, who was elected in November 2022, resigned due to moving out of Maine.
